Returning awardee Shelby Foulks, expected class of 2027, is from Laurel, Maryland. She is studying Biochemistry at Hampton University. In summer 2025, she participated in a 9-week research internship through the POWERED Program at Dartmouth College, which trains undergraduates in cancer science with a focus on rural health impacts. Shelby enjoyed living in a new region and networking with aspiring doctors and researchers from across the country. At Hampton, she is a chemistry tutor, a Summer Health Professions Education Program intern, Secretary of the Chemistry Club, and Outreach Chair of Black Girls in White Coats. Upon graduation, she plans to attend medical school.
