Shelby Foulks

Shelby Foulks, expected class of 2027, is from Chicago, Illinois. Shelby is studying Biochemistry at Hampton University. In the summer of 2024, she participated in the Dr. L.D. Britt Pre-Medical Scholars Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School [EVMS], in Norfolk, VA. While there, she shadowed residents through clinical and didactic experiences and rotated through the Departments of Ear, Nose, Throat [ENT] and Family Medicine. Additionally, she had the opportunity to be a summer intern at the Summer Health Professions Education Program [SHPEP] at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in Newark, NJ. She participated in clinical observations of trauma units and emergency medicine and engaged in academic workshops to enhance test-taking/critical thinking skills and financial literacy. She was also involved in lectures covering topics in Emerging issues in Healthcare, such as LGBTQIA+ Health Disparities, the Impact of Racism and Discrimination in Healthcare, and HIV and AIDS. At Hampton, she is a proud member of several clubs, including the biology club, varsity Track & Field team captain, and MAPS (Minority Association for Pre-Health Students). She is also a proud recipient of several awards, including the Dr. L.D. Brit Scholarship and Hampton University Dean’s List. She also served as a faithful Hampton University volunteer at high school and admitted students day.
