Alysia-Renee Surrell, expected class of 2028, is from Stockton, California. She is studying Legal Communications at Howard University. In summer 2025, she interned at the District Office of Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, gaining hands-on experience in public service and civic engagement. She learned about the legislative process and the importance of expanding access to resources for underserved communities. This internship deepened her passion for advocacy and community impact. At Howard, Alysia has served as a Presidential Staffer for the Political Science Society, a member of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications Essence Council, and the California Club. She also volunteers with Oasis Cares and Café and was awarded the Board of Supervisors Youth Leadership Academy Certificate. Upon graduation, she plans to attend a Top 14 law school and pursue a career in corporate law, with a goal of giving back to future generations of HBCU students.
