Mateo Lewis, expected class of 2028, is from Denver, Colorado. Mateo is studying Political Science and Philosophy at Howard University. During the summer of 2026, Mateo served as a Pre-Law Intern with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, where he conducted 50-state survey research on important policies and legal issues while supporting projects related to financial empowerment, civil rights, and fair housing. He also served as a Fellow and Mentor with the Thrive Scholars Program at the University of Miami, supporting students through career development, mentorship, and a simulated college experience. At Howard University, Mateo remains committed to expanding access and opportunity for underserved youth. Since his freshman year, he has volunteered with the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, mentoring young athletes and creating a supportive environment for students. Through Howard’s Alternative Spring Break, Mateo also completed service projects supporting schools and communities while gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of structural inequality. Upon graduation, he plans to attend law school and pursue a career focused on addressing barriers and expanding opportunities for others.
