Standing in the Gap Looks Like This

hbcu graduate standing in the gap

There is a moment in almost every HBCU scholar’s journey when the path forward becomes uncertain. Not because of a lack of ambition. Not because of a lack of ability. Because the gap between where they are and where they are trying to go got just a little too wide to cross alone.

That is the moment Williams-Franklin Foundation was built for.

We have been standing in that gap since 2014. And over the past decade, we have watched what happens when community decides to show up. Scholars persist. Degrees get finished. Careers get launched. The cycle that transforms one student’s life becomes the foundation another scholar builds on. This is how communities compound.

The Gap Is Still There

More HBCU students are enrolling today than ever before. The talent is undeniable. The ambition is there. And so is the gap — the last-mile costs that financial aid doesn’t cover, the networks that take years to build, the moments when $500 stands between a scholar and their next semester.

Closing that gap requires something no grant application or scholarship committee can fully provide alone: a community of people who have decided, collectively, that HBCU talent will not be surrendered to circumstance.

That is who we are. And that is who you are — if you are reading this.

Showing Up Is the Work

We want to say something plainly: showing up is not the lead-up to standing in the gap. It is standing in the gap.

When you join us on the golf course on June 15th, you are doing the work. You are part of the community that makes the phone call, that sits across the table, that says to every scholar we support: people who look like you built something for you, and they are still building.

That is a message no dollar amount can fully deliver on its own. It takes presence. It takes people.

Join Us on June 15th

The 6th Annual Williams-Franklin Foundation Golf Tournament is on Monday, June 15, 2026. This is the week of Juneteenth — a tradition we hold on purpose. Because the same spirit of freedom and forward momentum that this week honors is exactly what we are investing in every time a scholar crosses a finish line.

Whether you golf or you don’t, there is a place for you here.

Get your tickets today!

Bring someone with you. A colleague, a friend, a fellow alum who has been meaning to reconnect with this community. The table is wide enough.

We will see you on the course!
